What you learned after camping in the wild?

Camping is definitely not an easy way to travel, even a bit strenuous.

  1. Camping should be planned well

Planning is necessary for easy camping. Plan ahead how many people, where to go, what the weather is like, and what activities to do.

for example:

How many people to buy how much food
Do you want to bring outdoor cookers?
Do you need to bring trekking poles if you go hiking?
If you want to play in the stream, do you need to bring a swimsuit, wading shoes, etc.
If there is no plan, you will bring everything, but it will not be used, or it will be uncomfortable to use, which will really affect the experience of camping.

If there is a lot of camping equipment, camping carts are indispensable. For me, the camping cart is not a photo prop but an artifact.

  1. Check the weather before going out, pay attention to sun protection

Camping also considers the weather. Before departure, you must check the local weather conditions, and try to avoid rainy or cloudy seasons.

We are used to staying indoors, and suddenly exposed to the sun for two hours, it is easy to get sunburned. You may not feel anything at the time, and the skin will peel and hurt after a day or two, so be sure to wear sunscreen when camping.

In summer camping, the role of the canopy is even greater than that of the tent, so it is recommended to start. As an extension of the tent, the canopy can shield from rain, sun, shade and wind. When the weather is hot, the canopy is an essential piece of equipment.

  1. Camping is very dangerous, safety awareness is indispensable

Camping may seem beautiful, but there are many hidden dangers.

For most of my friends camping for the first time, they either pitched their tents on the lawns of clean river beaches, or under the cliffs to avoid the wind and rain, or pitched them on raised highlands in isolation. These camping sites are not advisable.

It seems that the gurgling water view room is very romantic, but it is actually very dangerous. There have been many tragedies in the country where camping tents were washed away by sudden flash floods. There are also plunging under the cliff after rain, which is easy to collapse and cause casualties. It is also easy to be struck by lightning if it is stuck on a raised high ground.

For the first time camping, it is recommended to travel with experienced and old travel friends to guide you on how to choose a safe and comfortable camp. If there are no old friends, it is best to travel together with more than 4 people and take care of each other.

1, outdoor camping site selection three do not

Do not camp on river banks and dry riverbeds, which are prone to flooding in the event of rain. In order to prevent the tent from flooding due to rain, a drainage ditch will be dug just below the top edge of the tent.

Don’t set up camp under the cliff, once the wind blows on the mountain, the falling gravel can easily cause casualties.

Do not set up camp on high ground, under tall trees or on relatively isolated flat ground, as it is easy to be struck by lightning during thunderstorms.

  1. Four requirements for outdoor camping site selection

The camp should be pitched on hard, flat ground for tents.

The entrance of the camp tent should be leeward, and it will be safer and more convenient to use fire.

The camp should be close to the village and water source, and villagers can be called for help in case of emergency.

Live in the camp for more than two days. In good weather, choose to camp in a shaded place, such as under a big tree and on the north side of the mountain. Note that the weather is good. It’s better to look at the sun, not the setting sun. This way the tent will not be too stuffy during the day.

  1. Pay attention to insects and snakes when camping, and do a good job of safety inspection
  2. What should we pay attention to when camping?

Precautions for multi-person camping: All tents should face the same direction, keep a distance of more than 1 meter between tents, and moderate wind ropes to avoid tripping people.

Safety Check: Before going to bed, check that all fires are extinguished and that the tent is firmly secured. In summer camping, it is best to spray it with sulfur powder or insecticide around the camp to prevent poisonous insects from attacking. In the early morning, carefully check the shoes and other containers placed around the tent to prevent insects and snakes from hiding in the cold.

Food and water: A misunderstanding to be reminded is that mountain spring water is not necessarily a natural clean water source. Try to bring your own drinking water when going out for camping. You have to choose a clean water source to boil or even boil for drinking after precipitation. If you don’t eat wild vegetables, wild fruits and wild mushrooms that you are not sure about, there is no chance of remedy if you make a mistake.

  1. How to divide a complete camp?

The camp can be divided into fire and dining area, water intake and water area (washing area), sanitary and convenient area, leisure and entertainment area and other areas.

Fire dining area: The dining area is close to the fire area and is built at the downwind.

Water intake area: Water intake will be built at the water source. Drinking water and toilet water will be separated. If you are camping by a stream, drinking water is upstream and toilet water is downstream. Of course, in order to ensure the safety of drinking water, we buy a relatively large water tank or directly buy bottled water as domestic water, while running water is used for washing dishes, etc., as toilet water.

Hygienic and convenient area: If you only stay for one night, you don’t need to dig a ditch, just designate a place that is convenient for men and women. If there are many people camping or staying for more than two days, a thatched pit should be dug.

Leisure and entertainment area: The leisure meeting is in the tent. If it is entertainment, summer camping is generally stargazing, barbecue, fishing, swimming, etc., and winter may be skiing and snow playing.

Five, outdoor camping, bring the necessary things

What gear should I bring for camping?

If the space in the car is infinite, in principle we can move the whole home outdoors.

Sleeping equipment: Since you are going to camp outdoors, tents, sleeping bags and moisture-proof mats are definitely indispensable. Since it is an overnight stay, lighting equipment such as headlights and camp lights are also needed. Otherwise, the eyes will be darkened at night, which will not only be unpleasant, but also have various safety hazards.

Living equipment: Hygiene products such as toilet paper, wet wipes, towels, toothbrushes, and compressed water cups are also required.

Catering equipment: If you want to have a picnic, gas tanks, stoves and simple aluminum pots and rice bowls are also indispensable.

Safety and entertainment equipment: If you are going through mountaineering, you need to buy professional hiking shoes, waterproof jackets and pants, trekking poles, and snow cover. If you go to the stream, you can bring fishing rods, swimsuits, wading shoes, etc. When I go camping, I prefer more casual camping than adventure.

However, since the size of each person’s backpack is fixed, and the space size of the car is also fixed, we have to make a choice in the choice of camping equipment.

  1. Outdoor first aid, first aid kit is indispensable

During outdoor adventures, emergencies are inevitable. In the event of a truly dangerous situation, the first aid kit is the last resort when it is difficult to find professional medical staff.

  1. The best first aid kit is not medicine, but a person’s first aid knowledge

If we plan to start a long-distance outdoor camping, it is recommended to enroll in the field first aid course in advance. Even for short-term hiking, you need to learn the most basic self-help medical knowledge.

  1. For medicine storage, it is recommended to choose durable waterproof bags

The first aid kit is our last resort in the process of outdoor distress, and no matter what happens, we must protect it. It is recommended to choose a durable waterproof bag of suitable size according to the quantity of medicines.

In the waterproof bag, you can use different transparent plastic bags to classify and pack medicines according to your own habits. At the same time, use a black marker to write the name of the medicine on the plastic bag, instructing yourself and your colleagues to find the medicine you need in the shortest time.

  1. List of common medicines in first aid kits

Common medicines include: wound care, medicines, bandages and other items. The following is a list of common medicines in first aid kits. You can refer to:

【Wound Care】

Gloves: Prevent infection of wounds on hands.

Medical alcohol pads or other disinfection pads: convenient medical supplies for outdoor disinfection.

Antibiotic ointment: suppresses secondary skin infections.

Medical non-stick gauze pad: clean wound, wound dressing.

Blister Patches: Treat the symptoms of blisters that are common on hiking.

Hemostatic sponge: rapid hemostasis, antibacterial and anti-infection.

Band-Aid: For small localized skin infections.

【Common Drugs】

Ibuprofen: anti-inflammatory and analgesic.

Acetaminophen (Paracetamol): Used to relieve pain and treat fever.

Anti-allergic drugs: Reduce allergic reactions.

Electrolyte tablets: for dehydration.

Medical eye wash: to clean up foreign bodies that get into the eyes.

Antidiarrheal: Treats abdominal problems such as diarrhea.

Cold medicine: used for colds, fever and other problems.

【External bandage】

Gauze Bandages in Different Sizes: Wrap the wound.

Hemostatic patch: Treat small wounds.

Elastic bandages: immobilize sprained joints.

Triangular Bandage: Multifunctional bandage medical supplies.

【First aid tool】

Tweezers: Handling wounds or medical supplies.

Syringe: Irrigation of the wound.

Small scissors: handle medical supplies.

Emergency splint: immobilizes a broken or sprained area.

Thermometer: Measures body temperature.

First Aid Information Sheet: Record personal information.

Sports Relief Spray: Emergency treatment for muscle and joint discomfort, such as sprains.

【Other medical supplies】

If you are camping outdoors, hiking long distances or traversing snowy mountains, it is recommended to add the following medical supplies:

CPR first aid mask: artificial cardiac resuscitation supplies.

Survival Blanket: Shelter in an emergency, multiple uses.

Locator: Indicates its own position.

Of course, we can also flexibly arrange the supplies of the first aid kit according to specific activities.

For example, when I went to catch fish before, I accidentally stepped on a moss-covered stone, and I fell and hit my knee. At this time, the hemostatic tape was very important. In addition, there are friends who have been allergic to pollen before, so they should also bring anti-allergy medicine.

Develop a good habit. Before each departure, it is recommended to check it again to ensure that there is no shortage of medicines when first aid is needed.
